Loser Lundstram reveals his SPFL title regret

John Lundstram has produced a highlights reel for his three seasons at Ibrox which includes his X-rated attack on Alistair Johnston in his final SPFL match.

That incident came a few minutes after he sent a shot past Jack Butland for what was to turn out to be the decisive goal of the match.

Defeat in that match left Phil Clement’s side six points behind Celtic with three matches left to play, Celtic’s 5-0 win at Kilmarnock in their next match clinched the title.

Lundstram served a two match ban for his assault on Johnston, he came on as a late substitute in the Scottish Cup and attempted to replicate that incident on Matt O’Riley who skipped away from the Scary Scouser.

In typical fashion after rejecting contract offers to stay on at Ibrox, Lundstram took to Instagram and laid it on think for his farewell.

It’s with a heavy heart, I say goodbye to the place i’ve fell in love with @rangersfcI didn’t know when I walked through the doors, of a place I had no connection to that after three years it would have touched me like it has, it’s well and truly gripped me and now I’ll never be able to stay away! After some amazing highs of the 2 cup wins, qualifying for the champions league, and the unforgettable Europa league final run, and other amazing nights, days and memories, it will always pain me that I didn’t achieve what I came up here to do and win a league title! But I am extremely proud knowing I gave it absolutely everything I could every single day!So, Thank you to Steven, Gio, Michael and Phillipe.Thank you to my team Mates.Thank you to all the staff that the people don’t see and may not get recognised as much, you are the heart beat of the club thank you!

The farewell reel includes his Scottish Cup goal at Dumbarton in January, in 34 SPFL appearances he didn’t score a single goal or have an assist meaning that his net goal contribution for the season is -1.

For no obvious reason there has been heavy speculation that Trabzonspor have offered Lundstram a three year contract.

With such a limited game the English Championship would have seemed the natural destination for the 30-year-old but clearly the offer from Turkey tops anything else available.

Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, Borna Barisic and Jon McLaughlin have also walked away with Brazilian wonderkid Jefte added to last season’s squad with Leon Balogun and Oscar Cortes signed up onto new deals.
