Dickinson on speed dial as he gets another Ibrox date

For the fifth time since December 23 David Dickinson will referee Philippe Clement’s side, on Sunday Kilmarnock will be the visitors to Ibrox.

Having won the previous four matches in that sequence a home win looks very likely which should go down well with Dickinson’s family.

Before that run got underway Dickinson refereed the League Cup tie with Morton, awarding a questionable penalty against the visitors with Cyriel Dessers scoring as Micky Beale’s side scrambled to a 1-0 victory.

Dickinson also refereed Newcastle’s pre-season victory at Ibrox and seemed to share a special moment with Clement at Hampden when a goal was scored against Hearts.

With 18 referees on Premiership duty is seems incredible that Dickinson should be in charge of the same club for the fifth time in just over four months which includes the winter break.

The Renfrew based referee was also in charge of the last match between the two sides, on February 7 at Rugby Park when the visitors won 2-1.

On January 27 it was a 1-0 win away to St Mirren, on March 30 it was Ibrox calling as Hibs lost 4-0.

While Dickinson seems to be on speed dial for Clement Willie Collum hasn’t been selected for any of the last 17 SPFL matches, a run which follows on a request made to the SFA shared with the Heart & Hand podcast.

Since Brendan Rodgers was given a one match touchline ban for calling John Beaton incompetent the Bellshill based referee has been in charge of two matches involving the hoops. This weekend Beaton will be on VAR duty for Don Robertson at the Ross County v Hibs match.

With Kevin Clancy refereeing Celtic v Hearts and Nick Walsh on VAR it looks like Steven McLean or Robertson will referee the May 11 Glasgow Derby.
