Norwich City join the race for Celtic linked striker

At 6.12pm tonight Anthony Joseph has reported Norwich City are in talks to sign Sydney van Hooidonk.

The Bologna striker has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic but it appears that the Championship club have moved into pole position to sign up the 23-year-old on loan.

Norwich are in the mix for a Play Off place back to the EPL, finding that elusive striker than could supply eight or more goals before the end of the season could go a long way towards reaching the Play Offs or securing an automatic promotion place.

With just over 48 hours to go before the transfer window closes clubs are expected to step up their activities with van Hooijdonk looking certain to move on from Bologna where he has spent most of the season on the bench.

With the Celtic connection of his Dad there has been strong speculation that van Hooijdonk will take the same route but they may have to move swiftly to make that happen.

Celtic’s exposure in the striking position has been highlighted by the absence of Daizen Maeda and Oh Hyeon-gyu due to the Asian Cup, had Kyogo Furuhashi been selected Celtic’s striking options would have been wiped out in an instant.

Despite his high profile goals to decide both Glasgow Derbies Kyogo’s goal return is drastically reduced from last season where he drove Celtic to the domestic treble.

Other than van Hooijdonk the only striker to be linked with Celtic this week is Danny Ings who worked with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.

It remains to be seen how strong Norwich’s interest is in the Bologna striker, if Celtic’s interest is genuine they will have to move fast or look elsewhere for an understudy/competitor to Kyogo.
