Forgotten Celtic goalkeeper Ben Siegrist is spotted

Ben Siegrist has become topical among Celtic fans over the last few weeks with fans wondering what has happened to the rarely sighted goalkeeper.

Signed as a free agent in the summer of 2022 the former Dundee United man was expected to challenge Joe Hart for a first team place and to at least provide a strong deputy for the former England keeper.

Eighteen months down the line Siegrist is still waiting to make his SPFL debut, since leaving Tannadice he has played in two competitive matches- in the autumn in 2022 in the League Cup.

Part of the disappearing act can be put down to Celtic’s trip to Australia last November, playing two matches in the Sydney Super Cup.

Most fans would struggle to name the scorelines in the matches but off the park the Celtic keeper and Australian celebrity Brittany Hockley appear to have hit it off.

Last Christmas Hockley and her family visited Scotland with the duo enjoying some well publicised holidays together when the football calendar has permitted.

The pictures above could be from a previous holiday but suggest that the celebrity couple have been together again recently.

At Celtic it seems that Siegrist’s career is in freefall, he was left out of the Champions League squad with his only appearance on the bench coming in September when Scott Bain started away to Motherwell when Joe Hart was suspended.

A transfer to a club in the A-League would seem to be the obvious solution but as a free agent Siegrist will be on a decent wage at Celtic with his contract running through until May 2026 although the final year may be optional on the club’s part.
