Celtic are reported to be showing interest in Will Dennis, ‘keeping tabs’ according to the Daily Record.
The keeper is out of contract with Bournemouth at the end of this season and an important part of the Kilmarnock defence behind the former Celtic duo of Robbie Deas and Stuart Findlay.
It appears that Bournemouth have no plans to offer the 23-year-old another contract which puts him in the shop window, on January 1 he could sign a pre-contract deal to move elsewhere.
The goalkeeper position is one that Celtic will soon have to address, Joe Hart is out of contract at the end of the season with neither Scott Bain or Benji Siegrist showing the potential to take over as first choice.
Late this morning the Daily Record reported:
Rangers and Celtic are both keeping close tabs on on-loan Kilmarnock keeper Will Dennis.
The scouting teams of both clubs have the impressive 23-year-old on their radar. Dennis is currently on-loan from Bournemouth but he is out-of-contract at the end of the season.
It means he could move cross-border on a free come the summer. Both Glasgow giants are aware of the situation but any move would be dependent on either side losing one of their squad goalkeepers.
While Dennis is a competent keeper for the SPFL it takes special qualities to be a Celtic keeper, coming from other SPFL clubs both Bain and Siegrist have only shown up to be decent back up options.
Celtic are on a long run of exceptional goalkeepers, since Artur Boruc signed in 2005 he has been followed by Fraser Forster, Craig Gordon and Hart. The 20/21 season was a disaster all round which was highlighted by Bain, Vasilis Barkas and Conor Hazard filling the position with none ever nailing it down as their own.
Stevie Woods has been the goalkeeper coach since 2007, having a major say in recruitment as well as the day to day training and motivation of goalkeepers.
Following on from Hart will require a big character with supporter expectations being that it will be someone with more on their CV than some low profile loans from Bournemouth.
