Liel Abada is Celtic’s latest injury worry.
The winger played a key role in last Sunday’s success in the Glasgow Derby before flying out to meet up with the Israel national team.
Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic has been heavily impacted by injuries with the hoops boss facing an anxious wait for news on Abada with the opening Champions League tie against Feyenoord less than two weeks away.
Discussing the winger, tonight the Glasgow Times reports:
The winger pulled up at the end of a training session with his national team with a quad injury.
He will now miss his side’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Romania tomorrow and will be sent for a scan to discover what damage has been done.
Israel manager Alon Hazan said: “He felt a pinch in his muscle.”
With Jota sold to Al Ittihad in the summer Abada has moved up the pecking order in terms of Celtic’s winger option, last week Sead Haksabanovic moved out on loan to Stoke City.
If Abada is facing a couple of weeks out of action it could open the door for recent signing Luis Palma.
Celtic will be in constant contact with the Israeli medical team over the fitness of Abada, if he can’t take part in the international double header he will return to Celtic for treatment.
It won’t be until Wednesday morning that Rodgers is able to assess his internationalists with a view to Saturday’s match against Dundee knowing that three days later he will be selecting a side to face Feyenoord in the opening Champions League tie.
