‘Statements of intent’ ‘Fantastic business again’ ‘Keep it comin mr Celtic’ Daizen Deal Delight for Celtic fans

Celtic fans reacted with delight to the news that Daizen Maeda has extended his contract until 2027.

Two days after Kyogo Furuhashi signed up onto a new contract the news that the former Yokohama F Marinos forward was doing likewise comes as a major boost.

Having both been signed by Ange Postecoglou it would have been no surprise if an offer had come in from Spurs but without even having face-to-face talks with Brendan Rodgers two current internationalists have decided that they want to stay with Celtic.

While the club does operate a Player Trading Model there is also a willingness to pay top money and consolidate rather than just sell players on and look for replacements.

Maeda played under Postecoglou at Yokohama before moving to Celtic in January 2022, initially on loan before the deal was made permanent last summer.

Back in 2019/20 he had a spell in Portugal with Maritimo before returning to Japan but this time around he has found a European home from home.

Although played as a striker by Japan, scoring in the World Cup Finals against Croatia, Maeda is mainly found buzzing up and down the left flank for Celtic, flying past full-backs or tracking back to double up with Greg Taylor.

He showed his ability to finish with the opening goal of the game at Ibrox on January 2, at the end of April his perseverance caught four of Micky Beale’s defenders out as he seized possession to sling in a perfect cross for Jota to head Celtic into the final of the Scottish Cup.
