Ahead of meeting the media Brendan Rodgers has spoken directly to the Celtic support.
A simple club statement accompanied Monday’s announcement but at 5pm on Thursday wearing club kit the new manager made a fairly direct plea for unity to the fans.
There is no denying the anger and abuse that followed on from his move to Leicester in 2019 but when the candidates to replace Ange Postecoglou emerged the mood changed towards the Irishman.
A more realistic assessment emerged, there were clearly issues behind the scenes with part of the backlash relating to the decision to appoint Neil Lennon to succeed Rodgers.
This time around Celtic have replaced one high calibre manager with another, any criticism of Postecoglou is muted with Rodgers keen to get his reign off on a positive note.
Hi it’s Brendan here. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support that I’ve had since I’ve been named the manager here again at Celtic.
I’m very proud and very honoured to be given the opportunity and hopefully I can repay the faith of Dermot [Desmond] and the board for accepting me back into the club.
But also very. very importantly to you the supporters. Celtic football club is about the supporters, and I hope I can come back and make you very proud and very importantly make you dream again.
We did that in our first time together and now, hopefully going forward we can dream again. I really look forward to it and look forward to being together as one from the very first day of the season and let’s make this a memorable season for us all.
