The Ibrox board are reported to be split over bringing in Danny Rohl to replace Russell Martin.
That claim was made on Monday by Scott Burns. Last Tuesday the Daily Record man reported that Steven Gerrard wouldn’t be returning to Ibrox.
Regardless of that the Record charged ahead with Gerrard Mania. No-one could be in any doubt that they were on board the Gerrard Express, probably driving the campaign.
RECORD OVERDOSING
After publishing 10 contrived stories a day the Record revealed the bad news to their readers. Mister Gerrard wouldn’t be returning. Apparently timing was the problem after two days of intensive discussions.
Danny Rohl is now the name being pushed by the loyal messengers. A bang average record at Sheffield Wednesday is being polished up and presented.
The fans are fuming, more angry than they usually are. Instantly Rohl has been dubbed Martin 2.0.
He is 36-years-old his entire management career consists of two seasons at Sheffield Wednesday. Their fans appreciate the job that he put in, in the summer there seemed to be genuine interest in Rohl from elsewhere.
Only a complete idiot would ignore the hostility to Rohl being linked with the job. The idiots ignored the baying mob when Fabrizio Romano revealed that Martin was about to be appointed.
It seems that someone among the Ibrox decision makers has taken notice of the anger among bears.
THE REAL STORY
Last night Burns shared the board split with Record readers:
Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Rohl was installed as the immediate favourite for the Ibrox job after Steven Gerrard dropped out of the running on Saturday.
The 36-year-old met with the Rangers hierarchy last week and impressed Light Blue chiefs in those talks.
A senior figure at the club wants to give Rohl the job but others have reservations and have put more experienced alternatives forward.
Former Rangers player Muscat is one of those who is being pushed from within.
Muscat is still in charge of Chinese Super League side Shanghai Port and they are contending for the title, which is due to finish next month.
Rangers have not made contact with Muscat and are further down the road with Rohl.
After the Martin fiasco there are only two senior figures involved in appointing his successor. Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe. So far they have been presented as a pantomime horse, they agree on everything, move in the same direction.
THE SPLIT
Marathe has hands on experience from three years at Leeds United, Cavenagh doesn’t have a clue about soccer. Not many US based pharmaceutical magnets do.
As the losses mount, as the gap in Scotland grows there is bound to be some concern among the Ibrox owners.
When Martin was appointed the owners were referred to as The 49ers although that was clearly untrue. Now they are The Americans, and not in the usual fawning terms.
If Cavenagh and Marathe are disagreeing. If Kev Thelwell and Paddy Stewart are viewed as toxic there is the making for the perfect storm.
Perhaps so big that the messengers might break free and examine how high the losses are, the cost of Martin and who is going to pick up the repair tab if the Chairman, Cavenagh, and vice-Chair Marathe are split over a critical appointment.

What odds they try and get out asap unless they’ve bought in so deep they’ve no option but to ride it out.
Auld squinty Dave will be laughing that hard the tears will be rolling down his back.
