Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe are about to find out exactly what they bought into in the summer. The Americans are now the target for angry bears.
Back in June it was all red carpets and roses. The Close Season Cup and the Transfer Window Trophy were secured, a new era of domination was about to be inflicted on Scottish football.
The last four months have been golden. Highlight after highlight. No undercover Celtic fan could have pulled off what the 49GERS have managed.
THE BANTER YEARS
Who could have guessed that the sight of Russell Martin getting chased out of the Falkirk Stadium could be bettered in under a week?
The former Southampton boss was detested before he was appointed. After 15 matches he was gone, a huge contributor to The Banter Years but alas, no longer around.
Saturday evening, October 11 won’t be forgotten.
The chase for Steven Gerrard was simmering, there were a few warning signs but legacy media was leading the angry bears up the garden path, Mister Gerrard was on his way.
At 8.18pm Raman Bhardwar of STV was chosen to deliver the bad news. Deal off, a wasted week. Danny Rohl started to be pushed and the anger went off the radar.
Bears need a focus for their anger, Martin has left the building.
Paddy Stewart and Kev Thelwell are the men associated with appointing Martin, they are on borrowed time.
PRESSURE SWITCHES TO THE AMERICANS
Now the Gerrard pantomime has put the spotlight on ‘The Americans’. They don’t even get named.
Gerrard was a done deal, all the messengers were saying the same thing, funnily enough.
Oh no he’s not. Those off-message knew that the deal didn’t add up. Even by Ibrox standards this one wasn’t going to work. Gerrard needed attention, Cavenagh wanted to be associated with a big soccer name.
For two days Cavenagh and Marathe gave the loyal bears hope. Snatching that away on a Saturday night won’t be forgotten.
As more than a few bears said last night ‘only Rangers can ruin my weekend when they aren’t even playing’.
Thelwell and Stewart have been side-lined after appointing Martin.
Angry bears are now ready to turn on ‘The American’s’. They were given hope in Gerrard, an escape from their miserable lives. Now ‘The American’s’ have taken that away- they better come up with someone big and shiny, and soon.
Cavenagh got a taste of the anger and hate when he flew in for the Hibs match which was effectively a hate-fest against Martin. Next time the pharmaceutical magnet well be the target, watch your back Andy.
After getting the sugar coated version of the 13-year-old club through the spring the real thing is starting The Americans in the face.
The more that fans are starved of success the more that they expect and demand it. Ironically Celtic’s problems have fuelled their expectations, they see the current season as a golden chance.
BEARS AT BREAKING POINT
It could just be that the Gullible & Deluded have been taken to breaking point.
It is 14 years since they watched either of their clubs win the SPL title in a packed stadium.
Getting told that Thursday’s nights at Ibrox are special isn’t washing any more. Too many Revolutions have come and gone.
Now all of that baggage falls on The Americans. They might start to understand why Dave King and the rest were so keen to sell up and head for the hills.
This weekend has been painful, bears had their hopes built up and are now being laughed at.
Fingers are being pointed at the SPFL Premiership table. Eighth place after seven matches following a favourable run of fixtures won’t be tolerated.
Cavenagh and Marathe better come up with something very impressive in the next 48 hours.
They are one more decision away from being the target for the angry mob. The bears are watching and ready to pounce. It is part of the deal when you buy into Scotland’s most toxic support. As two UEFA suspended sentences this year confirms.
