With the season almost completed the Ibrox PR machine was within touching distance of pulling it off.
Early on Monday evening Spanish media outlets were reporting that Davide Ancelotti had agreed a three year deal to succeed Phil Clement as manager at Ibrox, a start date of mid-June was put out with a pal coming over from Real Madrid to help out the Brains Behind Carlo.
The Scottish media is nothing if not predictable, the stories were soon gushing out profiling the most exciting young coach in European football, at the age of 35 he has say beside his Daddy at Napoli, Bayern Munich, PSG and Real Madrid.
Quotes from Jude Belligham and Luka Modric praising Ancelotti Junior soon appeared there was even the Scottish element with relatives living in Penicuik.
Barry Ferguson was furious when he faced the media on Tuesday to preview the match with Dundee United.
Apparently the Ibrox job isn’t one for a foreigner or for a managerial project, it wasn’t too difficult to put two and two together in Ferguson’s thought process.
To the sceptical Internet Bampot the Ancelotti story had all the characteristics of a classic moonbeam.
Some glamour, add in deflection and the complete lack of questioning or criticism left a certain smell. Sit back and watch it unravel.
On Thursday night Chris Jack of the Rangers Review was sent out to downplay the story. No decision for a fortnight, there were other candidates for the Ibrox job with other offers in front of Carlo’s boy. Kicking the can.
On Friday morning the story came to a premature halt in the most embarrassing manner, not only had Davide knocked back the Ibrox job but he had decided to tag along with his Dad to Brazil for a year.
The day before the SPFL season ends it was a tough story for the Scottish media to cope with, the Rangers Review had certainly gone to town previewing and profiling next season’s Ibrox leader.
Trying to salvage the story, this afternoon Ibrox specialist Chris Jack tweeted:
Is that the exact tweet rangers told you to send? 😂

Having revived the story, at some stage next week it will be quietly buried, no doubt with the Ibrox club deciding that Ancelotti Jnr wasn’t the right man for the job.
Until someone is appointed Ferguson is going to consider himself the manager, in recent weeks he has been pushing the club to make a quick decision.
Ferguson is going to be a dangerous lingering presence around the club, with each passing week without an appointment it will make more sense to put him back in charge having had three months working with the serial losers.
There was no media activity at Ibrox today to preview tomorrow’s match away to Hibs.
BBC Scotland will have pre and post match access to Ferguson who will also have an all-in post match media conference to deal with.
After that the shutters come down as next season races into view. The draw for the Champions League Second Round takes place on June 18 with the matches played on July 22/23 and 29/30.
Ancelotti won’t be anywhere near those matches with whoever is in charge about to be smothered by the expectations of the Gullible & Deluded who have been whipped up into a ridiculous frenzy of expectations over the last few months.
🚨 Davide Ancelotti will stay on his dad’s coaching team at Brazil until the 2026 World Cup. 🇮🇹👔
He has decided to postpone his first job as a manager.
