Record Visit by Three Wise Men at Ibrox

Andrew Cavenagh, Paraag Marathe and Gretar Steinsson made a top secret visit to Ibrox on Tuesday with the Daily Record and STV both on the scene to relay the images to their on-line followers.

Despite having camera crews on the ground neither media outlet was able to ask any questions to the Three Wise Men who are about to replace the Three Bears who sparked their own Revolution in March 2015.

That Revolution yielded three trophies in a decade while racking up the share issues to cover losses. So far this season £18m has been converted into shares, last season the club lost £17.2m with losses for the current season expected to be around £25m.

New Ibrox spin doctor Craig Mailer made sure that he was pictured on the walkabout.

One long range image made its way to the Daily Record, not content with that scoop the Glasgow publisher opted to claim that Jed York, owner of the real San Francisco 49ers had rocked up to view the rundown stadium. Naw he didnae.

In trademark fashion the Record reported:

The leaders behind Rangers takeover have been spotted at Ibrox as they close in on completing a sensational deal.

Prospective new owner Andrew Cavenagh was in the building with his American consortium and they are expected to finalise their multi-million pound buyout in the coming weeks.

Paraag Marathe, the Leeds United chairman and the force behind 49ers Enterprises – the investment wing of the San Francisco NFL franchise – also appeared to be in attendance to soak on Tuesday in Ibrox with a deal inching close.

San Francisco 49ers supremo Jed York also appeared to be among the group alongside Leeds technical director Gretar Steinsson.

Speculation had circled that interim boss Barry Ferguson – who is preparing the side to to face Celtic this weekend – was also part of the proceedings as the red carpet was rolled out. However, Record Sport understands he was not involved in the meeting.

York was nowhere near Ibrox on Tuesday, the Record soon had a camera crew along following Cavenagh, Marathe and Steinsson as they wondered round the four neglected stands while sidestepping the white elephant known as New Edmiston House.

What ‘soak on Tuesday’ actually means is anyone’s guess. Perhaps it is a medical condition.

On February 19 the Record broke the WORLD EXCLUSIVE! that the takeover from the San Francisco 49ers was at an advanced stage, discussions had started in October but had remained under the radar for five months, surfacing just as Celtic were cruising to #title55 with the launch of Season Ticket renewals scheduled for the end of March.

Cavenagh’s regular visits to enjoy hospitality has kept the story bubbling along, he became the focus of the ‘takeover’ two days after the exclusive about the San Francisco 49ers.

Virtually nothing is known of Cavenagh other than he sold a private Healthcare company in the USA, whether that justifies the billionaire status he has been handed by the Daily Record is up for debate. He has no previous knowledge of sport, no European connections other than tyre-kicking at Queens Park Rangers.

Despite his off the radar wealth it seems that Cavenagh is a team player, linking up with 49ers Enterprises to buy some shares in the troubled Ibrox club before performing boardroom gymnastics to reach 51% of the shares. And still no-one has contacted Douglas Park about his 11.54% stake in the club complimented by an interest paying loan of £11m.

That annoying detail has been swept aside by the Sports Team at the Record as they attempt to keep spirits up in the fast declining army of readers..

Fortunately there are just three more weekends of the SPFL season left to endure, Keith Jackson expects the takeover to be completed today but elsewhere at the Record they are more cautious with ‘May’ the dateline being put on their last throw of the dice.

Loyal bears, fed by legacy and fan media, have been worked into a frenzy over the extent of their summer war-chest, to such an extent that they are discussing whether Marco Rose, Jose Mourinho or Steven Gerrard gets their hands on the transfer kitty.

A massive clear out of serial losers is anticipated but only Leon Balogun, Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Vaclav Cerny will be out of contract, returning to draw down the last year of their contracts will be Rabbi Matondo, Ben Davies, Kieran Dowell and Jose Cifuentes.

Perhaps they’ll need Jurgen Klopp in the dug-out to get a tune out of those four players, the former Liverpool boss now has a strategic role in the Red Bull set up who are about to take on a record breaking shirt sponsorship deal, but that is another story for a rainy day.
