‘I’m genuinely devastated’ ‘That’s not Rangers’ ‘it breaks my heart’ – McCoist fears the worst for his old club

Ally McCoist has admitted that he is genuinely devastated at the state of the club he walked away from in December 2014- taking 12 months on gardening leave after life in the Championship turned out to be far from plain sailing.

Back in 2012 the cheeky chappy of the English media decided to TUPE over his salary from Rangers and fronted up for Charles Green after buying up penny shares that were later sold for 90p to the Gullible & Deluded.

McCoist presided over cup defeats to Falkirk, Queen of the South, Forfar, Raith Rovers and Alloa during his time in management before quitting soon after being drawn against Celtic in the 2015 League Cup semi-final.

On the back of stringing ‘I’ll tell you what Clive’, ‘absolutely Fletch’ and ‘I’ve got to say’ through co-commentary duties McCoist has opened up a very lucrative second career with very little contact to Scottish football.

With his media skills, business success and management experiece the 61-year-old would seem to be the ideal candidate to become CEO at Ibrox/Hampden but it seems that he prefers to steer well clear while shedding crocodile tears over the state that the 2012 Tribute Act has got into.

Listening in to TalkSPORT this morning Radio Clyde reports McCoist saying:

I’m genuinely devastated at what’s going on at my club.

I’m looking at it and the recruitment, goalkeeper (Jack Butland) aside and (Dujon) Sterling aside, has been unbelievably poor. They have given money to people to spend who quite frankly haven’t spent it wisely at all.

Perhaps McCoist has forgotten that he signed Kevin Kyle, Ian Black, Fran Sandaza and David Templeton to play against Annan, Peterhead and Elgin City.

We’re not even playing our home games at Ibrox now. The fans, I’ve seen it in the last couple of games – there’s big gaps at Hampden. That’s not Rangers. That’s not where Rangers should be.

On the pitch, miles off it and it breaks my heart to say it, but we’re miles off it. And off the pitch as well we’ve got an unbelievable amount of work to do. There doesn’t seem to be any leadership. The previous chief executive has gone to Saudi Arabia and I’m not sure about the job he did, by the way.

There was a few quid spent on players – £3-4million here and there. Not for me or the Rangers supporters. We’ve got problems and they have to be addressed as soon as possible.

I have genuine sympathy for the manager because at this moment in time it’s pretty clear he has to get a few out the door before he can get any in.

The fact of the matter is the squad at this moment in time, I don’t think, sadly, is good enough to win the league.

The best we can hope for is always to win it and I am the eternal optimist but if Rangers win the league it will be one of their greatest triumphs ever.

When the gags about Celtic dry up from McCoist you know that there are serious problems at Ibrox/Hampden.
