Pathetic Neil Lennon hits rock bottom

Neil Lennon struck rock bottom today with an astonishing attack on Brendan Rodgers from Tynecastle.

It seems that the Dunfermline boss will go to any lengths to defend the Celtic board as he angles for a return to the club that he has twice managed.

Normally managers tend to sympathise with each other. No one knows the problems inside Celtic better than Lennon yet he sides with his former employers at every opportunity.

Celtic’s horrific recruitment was brought up in a discussion about this season’s poor form. That was all that Lennon needed to jump to the defence of his former paymasters. Alongside Kris one thought Boyd.

Chris Sutton presented the sensible balanced case. In the studio Lennon and Boyd were like a tag team with one idea being shared. Operation demonise Brendan!

RECRUITMENT UNDER ‘LENNON’

During Lennon’s first spell as manager he was handed Amido Balde, Temmu Pukki and Mo Bangura as strikers. Pukki was the Champions League replacement for Gary Hooper. Peter Lawwell was the CEO that twice appointed Lennon from caretaker to permanent Celtic boss.

In the summer of 2019 Boli Bolingoli was signed and gave an interview with Celtic TV before he had spoken to Lennon!

Second time around the January 2020 transfer window brought in Ismaila Soro and Patryk Klimala. During Lockdown Celtic wasted £10m on Albian Ajeti and Vasilas Barkas. To solve the left-back issue Diego Laxalt was signed, thankfully only on loan.

Lennon led the squad on a January break to Dubai, one of many huge errors that season.

Lennon’s last Celtic signing was Liam Shaw, a few weeks later he stepped down as manager without working with the incoming Sheffield Wednesday starlet. Shaw started one match for Celtic before loan spells at Motherwell, Morecombe and Wigan he is now at Northampton Town.

SUMMER 2025 RECRUITMENT

Rodgers has faced up to similar this season. Shin Yamada, Callum Osmond, Hayato Inamura and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey have been left out of theEuropa League squad.

After selling off Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhm Michael Nicholson went for broke with the deadline day sale of Adam Idah.

With those goals removed Celtic are firing blanks.

Throw in injuries to Daizen Maeda, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston and Kelechi Iheanacho and you get performances like today at Tynecastle.

Post Celtic Lennon has managed Omonia Nicosia, Rapid Bucharest and Dunfermline.

With Omonia he had a record of 1.48 points per game from 29 matches. At Rapid it was 0.83 from six matches.

Since joining Dunfermline in March he has picked up 1.39 points per match over 23 games. A record of 9 wins, 5 draws and 9 defeats.

LENNON POST CELTIC

On Saturday Dunfermline lost 3-2 away to Ross County, Lennon blamed the match officials for the result.

Pars fans might have expected their manager to be analysing the Ross County defeat, not Lennon. Or preparing for Friday’s match away to Ayr United. Not Lennon.

On Thursday night he was collecting a payment from TNT Sports for watching Celtic v Sturm Graz, today the payment was from Sky Sports.

The more that he backs his former paymasters at Celtic the more detached Lennon gets from Celtic fans. Not many tickets will be getting sold for future Q and A nights. Especially alongside his mate the hilarious Tam Cowan.

After spells in charge of Hibs and Dunfermline presenting Lennon as manager of another Scottish club will be a hard sell.

Perhaps a series of O** F*** roadshows with Boyd might open up as his reputation goes down the drain.
