More red faces at the Daily Record as Steven Gerrard walks away!

Not for the first time the Daily Record has been left embarrassed by events at Ibrox, by Steven Gerrard.

Chances are that it wonโ€™t be the last.

It has been an emotional see-saw of a year for the Glasgow based publisher. The only form of consistency has been the decline in print sales. August saw the number dip below 40,000.

Undeterred the lads on the sports desk have been doubling up on their trips. Scott McDermott and Andy Newport already have Athens, Pilzen and Graz on their passports.

Led by Keith Jackson the Record was chief cheerleaders for the San Francisco 49ers taking over. They ended up with mystery man Andrew Cavenagh.

A bright new era of data driven recruitment was on the way. Cutting edge or state of the art, take your pick.

They landed Kev Thelwell on the rebound from Everton. Worse than that his boy Robbie, age 26 is now Head of Recruitment.

Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti were the front runners to become manager.

In the end they got a vegan Buddhist that edge out Dave Ancelotti who has still to manage his first ever team. Like Micky Beale he is a wizard with bibs and cones.

THE GHOSTS OF THE PAST- PAUL MURRAY AND DAVE KING

The warning signs were all there but the Record couldnโ€™t take a step back and examine the disaster unfolding.

Borders Banker Paul Murray joined Jackson on the Hotline Live. His staunch reassurance calmed any nerves.

Murray was the matchmaker. He had found Cavenagh, put him in touch with Dave King, leaving the Record to turn it into a Mills & Boon classic.

They under-estimated the Martin factor. Fans detested his beliefs, his lifestyle choices. He lasted 123 days before being chased out of the Falkirk Stadium.

Those images filled Sky Sports News from full time at Falkirk all through Sunday. Only interrupted by news that Martin had been sacked.

Quickly the Record was onboard the Gerrard Express. Nothing else mattered.

It is clicks over credibility. Not that there was much left of the latter.

THE TIDE TURNS

On Friday Chris Jack of the Rangers Review reigned things in, it wasnโ€™t the done deal promised.

Undeterred the Record went all in on Saturday. Nothing was going to restrain the Sports Desk.

Right up to early evening they were still firing them off, but then came the bad news from Raman at 8.18pm. No Stevie G…

Their Chairman hasn’t got a clue. Just as well he is a ‘billionaire’ isn’t it?

Oh well, clearly he is on route to Ibrox. clearly.

Yeah, unfinished business. In Bahrain.

Yeah. The man to turn the summer flops into world-beaters. Absolutely.

Or maybe not?

Jermain Defoe is being looked after by Instagram support. BBC Scotland held a Grief Workshop open to all Sports staff last night.

It seemed convenient for Gerrard and Cavenagh to hold talks in London. Strangely neither man has been pictured in recent days, all of the messengers have been kept upto date by WhatsApp.

After the distress caused by Martin the bears were all over news linking their club with Gerrard.

THE TOXIC JOB

Since he walked away in October 2021 four managers have been appointed, eaten up and spat out by the toxic support.

No manager has completed a full season. Desperation is in the air.

The Record is unable to remain detached, they canโ€™t take a step back. They Follow Follow the mob and end up leading the mob.

Gerrard is a failed manager. The Tribute Act is toxic in management circles, no-one credible wants to know.

Only a deep deep undercover Celtic fan would appoint Danny Rohl, the German Russell Martin. Even Cavenagh won’t try pushing that one through.

There is consolation for the Record with Derek McInnes and Barry Ferguson the most realistic candidates. Either will be welcomed, they wonโ€™t get the Russell Martin treatment.

As ever you can count on the Record, but not for the right reasons. Again.

All week long the rag daily Record had Gerrard assembling his backroom staff for his second coming at theRangers ! There was also quotes from ‘ photographer ‘ of the year – Kyle Lafferty – stating under Gerrard the league was not a forgone conclusion…yet ! It was all dripping down legs fantasy from the usual suspects , bossed by Inaction Jackson. Just call up Murts …he won’t turn them down …..flipping hell ,if you catch my drift ?
