Ibrox fan media outlets have been led a merry dance in the search for a new manager.
From Chris Jack on the Rangers Review/Newsquest/Herald to cult figure David Edgar on Hearts & Hand they have been caught out sharing comforting good news with fans believing that they were ITK.
Useful messengers to get through 100 days of gloom post Clement, shift Season Tickets and soothe the bears into believing that all will be well under Andrew Cavenagh by pushing non-existent links to the San Francisco 49ers.
On Friday a press release was delivered, four days later Companies House has still to be informed of the share purchases alongside the sacking of three directors and the appointment of three new men on the board, one called Eugene.
Without doubt Jack is the best connected reporter on the beat just now, he has a foot in legacy media at The Herald and is trying to lead Newsquest into the digital age with the Rangers Review.
He acquires a lot of stories, when social media is getting overexcited he is the outlet to dampen expectations, often referred to as pissing on their chips.
For 100 days they have had to keep supporters informed and remain on-message with those inside the club, those needing time to see out the season with Barry Ferguson covering all bases.
On May 6, two days after drawing with Celtic at Ibrox Rangers Review readers were given an update with one crucial detail that was picked up by almost every outlet:
Marco Rose became the talk of the town after a flurry of WhatsApp messages and bets last weekend. The former RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund boss certainly has pedigree and would be an intriguing appointment.
The prospect of Steven Gerrard returning to Glasgow has reignited the debate about his successes or failures first time around. His name is the one that will not go away in the online debate and it is natural that the last man to guide Rangers to the title would feature prominently in the betting.
Circumstances and soured relationships saw Gerrard leave prematurely and join Aston Villa. Those issues will no longer be in play and he has unfinished business at Ibrox.
It is understood that the appointment is more likely to be a manager with no previous involvement with Rangers. The new era will be a new beginning.
Rose and Gerrard remain at the head of the betting market and their names continue to swirl around social media. Both represent very different avenues for Rangers as those close to the American consortium keep their cards close to their chests. It will be intriguing to see which road they go down.
WOOPS, one name missing as he covered his bases, that’ll be the guy that Fabrizio Romano tweeted about at 11.30 this morning to bring misery and despair to the bears that haven’t calmed down since the confirmation on Friday of the Cavenagh Revolution.
Martin is certainly the choice of the club, perhaps because Dave Ancelotti has stopped taking calls after his media team had the Scottish messengers relaying their every thought.

Dreadful appointment.
Already a hugely unpopular figure among the fan base. Therefore he will be given zero leeway or time if he struggles early on.
I really dont get this at all.
I can see him being sacked by Xmas and then we are back in the same old cycle.
I hope im wrong.— William Weir (@WilliamWeir24) June 3, 2025
David Edgar is one of the biggest names in fan media, accredited with the club since season 2019/20 when David Graham was in control of media matters.
When the Daily Record decided to ‘expose’ the dubious morals of some of the cast on Heart and Hand it backfired spectacularly- subscriptions went through the roof as many Record reporters rushed to switch their Twitter accounts to private.
Edgar has a very healthy income from Pantheon, his daily podcasts are the go-to outlet for many fans with Edgar fed decent information when it suits the club.
Edgar knows his market, his subscribers are avid viewers of Southampton and are convinced that Martin’s style of play won’t work at the 2012 Ibrox Tribute Act. Too much tippy tappy possession based football, not enough raw meat.
Their views aren’t coloured by the former Southampton boss being a vegan, Buddhist that is a member of the Green Party. Absolutely not. Anyone for Everyone, Anyone?
Pushing the club line that Martin is a fantastic appointment is going to be a difficult task for fan media, online 90% of Ibrox fans are heatedly opposed to their incoming manager who also sports a hipster beard.
Hiya Sky Sports Scotland Hiya pals 👋
Any chance you can get @scott_coyne back on to assess Russell Martin – as he done such marvelously insightful job on Philippe Clement.
Scott got a lot of fans from his last appearance – I’m sure he’d be keen 👌 https://t.co/V17OYvHvAX

Back in the autumn of 2023, post Micky Beale Ibrox fan media united behind Phil Clement- a Proper Football Manager which really just meant that he wasn’t Beale.
The brilliant Belgian knew everything about the game, was the ideal successor, crucially he wasn’t Frank Lampard and was welcomed into the dug-out with a flurry of penalties for James Tavernier to slot away.
Clement managed to survive beyond a year but failed to complete a full season, successive home defeats to Queens Park and St Mirren saw him paid off with Barry Ferguson appointed.
Judging by online reaction Ferguson seems likely to be back in the dug out before Christmas as the cry goes up again for a Real Rainjurz man that pure gets it.
