‘An embarrassment to the football club, every one of them’ ‘Rewarding failure’ ’11 charlatans every week’ furious backlash to Ibrox Player of the Year Awards

There was an incredible backlash online to one tweet covering the glitzy Ibrox Player of the Year Awards.

Celtic fans sat back laughing a bear after bear ripped into their Co-efficient heroes over yet another season of failure.

Clearly sensitive about the event there was no advance notice for Sunday’s event which took place at an un-named venue.

Last season Celtic filled the Hydro as fans joined corporate guests to honour the achievements of Kyogo Furuhashi, Matt O’Riley and other serial winners and achievers.

Last night’s Ibrox event was clearly held for club sponsors, each award had a sponsor mentioned on the club website such as Cube Glass and SEKO, it is unlikely that those firms will be highlighting their involvement in an event that has provoced a 95% negative reaction.

Which is understandable when Cyriel Dessers. John Souttar and James Tavernier were up on stage picking up recognition for their efforts over another season of achieving nothing.

Tavernier’s award and a picture of him collecting a sunken plate from Barry Ferguson seemed to hit some very raw nerves among bears surrounded by celebrating Celtic fans all weekend.

In December the laughable claim to be ‘The World’s Most Successful Club’ was trashed as Celtic lifted the League Cup, on Saturday Celtic became the first Scottish club to be crowned as champions for 55 times.

Tavernier, dubbed Captain Disappointed by opposition fans throughout Scotland, has been a beacon of mediocrity throughout the last decade, appearing oblivious to his own failings and the anguish of supporters becoming more and more desperate to #stoapSelik.

Attending the Player of the Year event alongside Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Micky Beale, Phil Clement and Barry Ferguson, Tavernier has one more year on his contract, picking up a monthly wage far in excess of his annual salary as a jobsworth at Wigan, MK Dons and the other clubs listed on his CV.

Elsewhere the real Awards will soon be handed out with Daizen Maeda expected to sweep the boards.

Some bandwagons were launched for David Gray and John McGlynn to be given the Manager of the Year Awards but over the weekend those fantasies are looking harder to push.

If the Dally Reekord told the Sevcodgers Taxdodgers that they won the league, they’d believe it.
