Daily Record goes way OTT for Clement’s freaky French result

There was no holding back at the Daily Record as they milked to death a 4-1 victory over Nice in the Europa League.

After 90 happy and glorious minutes it seems that Hamza Igamane is again a £20m Moroccan starlet while the decision to nail Phil Clement down onto a long term contract is again a masterstroke.

It seems to have escaped the attention of the ailing Glasgow publisher that Nice were without 12 first team regulars and have just two points from five Europa League matches, it is fair to say that their priorities are elsewhere.

Visitors to the Record website could be forgiven for thinking that a trophy was handed out last night, the traditional World Media Reacts story appears when barely anyone outside of Scotland is aware of the result never mind reacting to it.

There is no denying that it is a decent result for Clement but context is everything, Nice aren’t interested in the Europa League as they look to improve on being fifth in the French title. Celtic’s 1-1 draw with the champions of Belgium was a result far more worthy of praise.

With incoming CEO Patrick Stewart looking on from afar last night’s result further complicates the future of Clement.

A December 16 statement thanking the Belgian Beale for his efforts is expected by most bears, whether Stewart is capable of that action remains to be seen.

The world media couldn’t care less for a Europa League result involving a Scottish club, they make take a few lines from the Press Association but no one in Madrid, Munich or Milan cares about Europa League involving clubs from their own country never mind elsewhere.

As he basks in the brilliance of the win over Nice Clement faces three SPFL matches in eight days as he fights for his survival and to keep the pressure on Aberdeen in the battle for second place.

St Johnstone, Kilmarnock and Ross County all know the template to beat Clement’s side with Derek McInnes and Don Cowie recording victories in the last seven months.

With his squad stretched thinly Clement will have to rely heavily on his medical team as he sticks to his mantra of managing minutes.

Following those three SPFL matches the pressure cranks up with Spurs and Celtic certain to provide far tougher tests of Clement’s brilliance than Nice.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has bigger issues to worry about than Clement earning a stay of execution ahead of the Tribute Act AGM on December 5.

The rag tabloid reports rather fervently how great it’s pet project was against Nice last evening . The entire truth of the matter is that Nice gave one of the worst showings of football ever seen in a European competition…Hibs would have beaten Nice last night ..that’s how awful they played . When a football team as a unit cannot pass the ball 10 yards to each other in an accurate fashion ,you know you are in for a long night
