We missed Lundstram! Clement losing the plot on Day 1

If John Lundstram is part of the solution you know that your team has some serious problems.

After a 0-0 draw away to Hearts today in which Connor Barron put in a Rodri style performance controlling the midfield Phil Clement was left to reflect on dropping points as his much heralded Revolution! got underway.

The former Monaco boss has been given a free pass over the last four months as he tried to get a tune out of the serial losers that he inherited from Micky Beale.

From a winning position in the SPFL title race Clement managed to finish the season eight points behind with no tears shed as five high earners left in June as free agents.

Lundstram and Borna Barisic ended up at Trabzonspor but speaking to Sky Sports after the draw at Tynecastle Clement was pining for the influence of the Scary Scouser!

We had some who missed pre-season and others who are new like Connor Barron. You miss a really important part with Lundstram there too lead the team out of the midfield. Oscar Cortes coming out of an injury also and he was unlucky today, he hurts his knee with falling down in a tackle.

Lundstram’s last two appearances for the Ibrox Tribute Act were in defeats against Celtic which kind of summarised his lucrative three year stint in Scottish football.

On May 11 he steered a cut-back from Daizen Maeda into his own net then was sent off a few minutes later for a trademark attack on Alistair Johnston after Cyriel Dessers had pulled a goal back.

After serving a two match suspension he came on as an 89th minute substitute in the Scottish Cup Final, just in time to watch Adam Idah score the only goal of the game for Celtic.

There was little interest from English clubs in taking Lundstram back south of the border but after a few months in Turkey he is expected to be on the move to a Championship club in January.

After more than a month training and trying to impress Clement, Barron goes into Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier away to Dinamo Kiev knowing that his manager would rather have Lundstram on his team sheet.

It didn’t take Barron long to suss out that, just like Goldson, if you’re playing in a team from Ibrox, sorry Hampden, you can use your hands and arms in the box without peanalty. Any penalty! FFS, here we go again!
