Mad Phil loses it with his October promise

Phil Clement appears to have forgotten all about that managerial pledge to take one match at a time.

At lunchtime on Saturday his side open the SPFL campaign away to Hearts, on Tuesday they are away to Dinamo Kiev with a very demanding fixture list ahead of the September international break which culminates with a trip to Celtic Park.

In four matches against the champions Clement has suffered three defeats plus a moral victory.

Cost cutting has been the theme of the close season at Ibrox with high earners replaced by young, untried projects accompanied by the usual spin that they are on their way to Real Madrid with massive transfer fees in return.

Three weeks ago in Holland Clement let his guard slip when he revealed that his transfer war-chest was empty which has sparked panic across the club as they attempt to deflect away from reality.

Over the last week the Belgian Beale has been back on message, on Friday he added another year to his contract with the media messengers keen to emphasise what a great show of commitment this is.

After his honesty in Holland it seems that Clement has completely flipped with Friday’s media conference bordering on the ridiculous.

Micky Beale never made it through to October 2023, Giovanni van Bronckhorst limped into November 2022 but was toast from the moment his side lost 7-1 at home to Liverpool on route to being the worst side ever in the Champions League.

All the sensible chat about rebuilding the club, a strategy, structure and Player Trading Model will count for nothing if September doesn’t deliver Champions League football while trailing Celtic in the SPFL.

Only a fool would put serious money on Clement still being in charge when his current club finally make it back to Ibrox.
