Phil Clement has warned protesting bears that their club has had to slash the wage bill to avoid the threat of liquidation.
Online since the 2-0 defeat from Dinamo Kiev there has been claims made over protests against the Board of Directors at Saturday’s League Cup tie against St Johnstone which is expected to attract around 20,000 fans.
Various forms of protest has been suggested as entitled bears demand success despite trailing Celtic on every metric. Enough is Enough sort of sums up the level of thinking with absolutely no potential investors or new owners waiting in the wings.
Since the Tribute Act reached the top flight they have won an impressive three trophies but had to suffer 19 Celtic triumphs with the hoops now on a total of 118 trophy wins.
By Christmas time Celtic could have demolished the myth of the World’s Most Successful Club with Brendan Rodgers’ side strong favourites to win their 55th title by the end of the season.
Having been fed The Survival Lie since Charles Green set up his Tribute Act in 2012 the reality of life in 2024 is destroying the superiority mindset developed by Dave Murray through the nineties.
Without the friendly overdraft facilities of the Bank of Scotland or using disguised remuneration scams to attract players that they couldn’t normally afford life has been cruel on the current generation of bears.
Clement is now coming in for criticism from fans but has thrown out a stark warning to justify the cost cutting and declining standards of the playing squad.

QUESTION: There are plans for supporter protests tomorrow, do you understand their anger, perhaps they don’t see things being where they’d hoped it would be at this stage and is that a distraction to you and your players at this stage?
CLEMENT: “I think that these things happen much more than they did 20 years ago, there is a shift in that all over Europe, in that way. I think that the first thing that fans don’t want is to come into the same situation as 12 years ago, they don’t want that.
“So they need to understand that the club tries to do all the good things to stay healthy and get results. So if you have six players out of contract you maybe need to let go and maybe you also need to let go somebody else to cut down the wages. If you cut down the wages it costs time to rebuild that.
“I know a big part of the fans understand that, and some not. We need to focus on showing them everything, every day for the players to get results on the pitch.”
Those comments suggest that Connor Goldson was released despite claims of the favoured undisclosed fee.
Later on Clement was blunt about the handicap he faces trying to topple Celtic

“There are so many things that we have to do here. We have to be inventive to do it with less money than your great opponent in the league, that is the reality, we know.”
Reference to the events of 2012 have been out of bounds for managers of the Tribute Act who have fed supporters tales about the club’s rich history and the expectation to win every match and every trophy.
As recently as April 6 Clement was on the brink of winning a Treble, with a record of just seven wins in 19 matches Clement needs to win his next three matches which include a trip to Celtic Park if he is to avoid the same autumn fate as Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Micky Beale
At the 2023 AGM Chairman John Bennett warned shareholders about the need to take £10m off running costs with the wage bill the easiest area to reduce.
