Fabrizio Romano trashes the Daily Record’s favourite transfer tale

After nine years of almost constant failure at Ibrox James Tavernier has finally been linked to his first ever transfer rumour- from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano!

Since April the Daily Record has been serving their Army of Readers a diet of Tav for Saudi tales two or three times a week without the slightest hint of interest from Steven Gerrard in his former skipper.

Moussa Dembele and Jack Hendry were among his first signings for Al Ettifaq, now into his third transfer window there is no sign of a mega-bucks offer landing at Ibrox for Tavernier.

As every one of his 20m plus Twitter followers know when Romano tweets there is always some credibility to his news. Not all result in a transfers but the ‘formal proposal’ sounds like a genuine offer to take the former Wigan Athletic ace off the Ibrox wage bill. But isn’t a transfer bid.

Trabzonspor recently signed Borna Barisic and John Lundstram, clearly the agent involved in those deals has informed the Turkish club about the financial distress at Ibrox.

Unless they have a spare £30m to throw at England’s fifth best goalkeeper Trabzonspor can take their pick from anyone inPhil Clement’s squad.

As recently as March Ibrox fans were drooling over the world’s highest scoring defender but three confrontations with Daizen Maeda in April and May delivered a reminder of how limited Tavpen is.

Celtic’s Japanese forward ran amok in the Glasgow Derbies with his direct opponent barely able to cross the halfway line as he added two more losers medals to his growing collection.

When Tavpen arrived at Ibrox Celtic had won three trebles in 127 years, if he joins Trabzonspor this summer he’ll have watched the hoops add another five to create a new world record.

The prospect of Tavernier, Barisic and Lundstram lining up for the same side in the Turkish League promises extra hilarity, hopefully the Trabzonspor Recruitment Team are tracking others such as Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos.

Tavernier has missed the first pre-season friendlies of the season due to a mystery injury.

Record, Romano
