‘It’s a rigged game in Scotland’ ‘Absolute joke’ ‘Speak the truth and get punished’ Celtic fans react to Rodgers Disrepute charge

Brendan Rodgers will have almost unanimous backing from the Celtic support when he faces a charge of bringing the game into disrepute following his post match comments at Tynecastle on Sunday.

It seems that accusing John Beaton of incompetence has crossed a line- if it wasn’t incompetence from the Bellshill based official there is only one other explanation for his actions in the match.

While fans get behind Rodgers the Celtic board has taken up their traditional place at the back of the bus with their heads down hoping that a difficult issue will pass over.

After finding the courage to appeal the red card shown to Yang Hyun-jun the best that Celtic could muster when the appeal was rejected was to reach out for their favoured surprised and disappointed statement template.

There has been no comment today from Celtic on the failed appeal, no reaction to the charge against Rodgers or the 25 day delay in hearing the Disrepute charge which carried a minimum penalty of a two match ban. Celtic visit the Tony Macaroni Stadium and Ibrox in the subsequent matches.

🚨 BREAKING: Brendan Rodgers has been charged by the Scottish FA for questioning the ‘competence’ of officials during Celtic’s 2-0 defeat at Hearts. ⬇️https://t.co/s1dVSRe0wv

Over two spells in Scotland Rodgers has been a model of diplomacy, there have been multiple opportunities for him to comment on VAR and refereeing decisions but he has refrained.

That policy along with Peter Lawwell and Michael Nicholson’s fear of the SFA has empowered officials leading to the decisions at Tynecastle on Sunday.

Don Robertson and Beaton are on the select group trusted with taking charge of the Glasgow Derby, with Willie Collum now removed that group is becoming dangerously small.

Both of them agreed on the Yang sending off, both agreed on the penalty decision against Tomoki Iwata, now the SFA have little option but to back their men despite overwhelming evidence pointing to incompetence- or something more sinister.

On Friday Rodgers is expected to meet the media to talk up the SFA Cup tie against Livingston, having been hit with a Disrepute charge for sharing his views on the Hearts match the hoops boss might side step Friday’s duties- or use it to really drive home a message or two about how football is governed and refereed in this country.
