Iron man Barisic bounces back from mystery injury to report for Croatia duty

Borna Barisic has made a miracle recovery to declare himself fit for international duty.

Croatia face Latvia and Armenia over the next couple of days with the Ibrox star expected to take up his traditional place on the bench for both matches.

There has been some confusion over Barisic’s fitness over the last week with some Twitter users questioning his bravery after a strange series of events.

Five minutes into the second half of the Champions League hammering from PSV Eindhoven he pulled up with what appeared to be a muscle injury.

On TNT Ally McCoist speculated over whether it was a hamstring or calf injury but at Friday’s media conference Micky Beale declared that Barisic was fit and available for selection against Celtic on Sunday.

When the team news was released Dujon Sterling was listed at left-back with the word being that Barisic had failed a fitness test.

Rather than take the easy option of a few sessions in the treatment room at Murray Park the 30-year-old defender has opted to fly to Croatia followed by a trip to Armenia for Tuesday’s match before returning to prepare for the SPFL match with St Johnstone.

John Souttar, Ryan Jack and Nico Raskin are the only Ibrox players away on international duty, only Jose Cifuentes of the summer signings is currently involved in international football.

Todd Cantwell was spotted at Glasgow Airport wearing a knee brace, so far he has resisted posting on Social Media following Sunday’s result.
