Talent is essential but for any live performer knowing your audience puts a bit of magic into the show.
On Friday, ahead of his appearance at TRNSMT Paul Heaton dropped into a few pubs local to Glasgow Green, including The Tolbooth and Lynch’s, to leave something behind the bar for folk going into the concert.
Football is the language that makes Glasgow and the west of Scotland tick, the weather in July can be as miserable as October but a shout out for a particular team is bound to get a positive reaction.
Charlton, Falkirk, Rochdale, Everton and Leeds United got a mixed, friendly reaction but when Rianne Downey’s team was read out the crowd came to life, as did the ghirl from Bellshill.

After that the show couldn’t go wrong, Heaton was on top form with Downey getting fantastic feedback on Twitter. After TRNSMT it looks like her career is heading in a similar direction to her favourite football club.
