Celtic fans will have to wait before they get their first chance to see Marco Tilio in action.
The winger signed from Melbourne City at the end of June but arrived with an injury that Celtic were well aware of.
Between July 19 and August 1 Celtic will play four pre-season friendlies but Tilio won’t feature in any of them, denying the Australian winger the chance to bed in with the playing style of his new team-mates.
Brendan Rodgers told The Sun:
Marco had an issue when we signed him, we knew of it. He’ll miss the start of the season as he got injured with Australia. He’s an exciting winger. He fits the profile and he’ll do very well.
At the start of the week Cameron Carter-Vickers was the only known injury worry but over the last few days Alistair Johnston, Tilio and Mikey Johnston have been added to that list. With Jota sold and Aaron Mooy retiring the current Celtic squad is seriously weakened compared to last season’s Treble winners.
Odin Thiago Holm is the only addition to last season’s squad able to train in the Algarve as Rodgers prepares his squad for two matches next week in Japan.
With the SPFL season starting in three weeks time supporters will be hoping for no more injury set-backs as well as a couple of high quality signings to go straight into the Starting XI.
