Brazilian winger is linked with Rodgers reunion

Brazilian winger Tete is reported to be keen on a Celtic reunion with Brendan Rodgers.

In January the 23-year-old moved on loan to Leicester City but the departure of the manager and Leicester’s relegation have resulted in a return to Shakhtar Donetsk although he hasn’t played in the Ukrainian League.

With his contract expiring at the end of this year a summer transfer seems the best all round solution but the player would have to seriously reduce his salary expectations from Leicester levels if he is hoping to get a move to Celtic.

Discussing links to Celtic the Daily Record reports:

Tete is out of contract at the end of 2023, but wants to rip up his deal with Shakhtar in order to secure a switch this summer. He has no intention of returning to the club, despite declaring his love for the Miners but reluctantly admits he has to move on. He said: “I love the club, but I am afraid to go on the pitch during a war.

“No one could have imagined such a scenario. It is hard to believe that the events of the last year and a half really happened. Shakhtar became the first serious club in my career and gave me a lot. I will always love this team. But I can no longer stay here. I hope the fans understand my point of view.

“There are clubs that are interested in me. My agent is already negotiating with the management of Shakhtar about my contract.”

The lure of Champions League football and working under a previous manager will have some appeal but many football deals break down to the money on offer.

Jota’s departure and speculation that Liel Abada is looking to move on this summer could leave Celtic short on wingers but so far there has been no serious indications over what areas of the squad Rodgers is looking to strengthen.
